KAYAK, the world’s leading travel search engine, opened its first hotel, KAYAK Miami Beach, in April 2021. The property exceeded all expectations and has garnered excellent reviews from guests since its opening last year.
Now the pioneering travel company has done it again, opening two more hotels, KAYAK Sol and KAYAK Luna. Both destinations are located in the Caribbean beach town of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and began welcoming guests in December 2021.
“We’re reimagining hotel operations and the guest experience through technology. Adding more hotels to our portfolio accelerates our learning,” said Steve Hafner, KAYAK CEO. “KAYAK’s team has some of the brightest minds in the business; it’s fun bringing our tech to the hospitality experience.”
Both KAYAK Sol and Luna offer guests a remarkably effortless stay through self-check-in and digital tools that enable guests to communicate with hotel staff directly. For the interior design, the two hotels draw inspiration from Playa del Carmen’s deep history with Mexican Modernism, local nightlife, and nearby natural wonders, giving travelers a seamlessly local and unique experience.
When KAYAK wanted to create an art collection highlighting the two hotels’ indigenous influences and unique offerings, they turned to Saatchi Art and its international reach to source local Mexican artists. Using the world’s largest online gallery to their full advantage, Saatchi Art’s art advisory team curated a group of their bestselling Mexican artists for KAYAK’s two newest properties.
With coral-colored walls and contrasting earth-toned accents, the 31-room KAYAK Sol was a joy for Saatchi Art’s art advisors to curate. Mexican artist Christophe Carlier’s artworks highlight plants native to the area and are right at home in the hotel’s airy rooms that let in the steady sunshine of the Yucatan.
The sophisticated and calming sister to KAYAK Sol, the 20-room KAYAK Luna draws visitors in with dramatic high ceilings, luxurious accommodations, and eclectic tastes. Mexico City–based artists like Cristian Armenta and Gustavo Medina enliven KAYAK Luna’s guestrooms with local flair and style through bright prints featuring modern and free-flowing organic shapes.
This local art collection by Saatchi Art makes the KAYAK Sol and Luna a must-visit for any Mexican Modernism enthusiast or international adventurer. If you’re interested in working with a Saatchi Art advisor on your next project, please contact us at trade@saatchiart.com—we’d love to hear from you!
